I recieved this message from Craig Leighty this morning.
---------------------------------------------------
I'm here in California and have been spending a lot of time at the hospice with Doug and his family. Doug is on a lot of medication to control the pain and as a result is mostly sleeping. He seems to be able, a small part of the time, to be aware of us speaking to him, but that is it. He does not have a lot of time left and we will all miss him.
Doug's wishes are that at his service, the OA Broken Arrow Ceremony be performed. I have a copy of the ceremony and Gary Johnson and I will perform the two parts in the service and it will be appropriate to have all Arrowmen that knew Doug be invited to attend the service in full uniform. There will also certainly be an opportunity for the lodge to express it's condolences as part of the ceremony . . . either by yourself as the Lodge Adviser and/or the Chief and any others that may wish to say something on behalf of the Lodge and the Council . . . we can discuss more later.
For planning purposes, Nancy, Doug's wife is thinking about having a service on Saturday, May 23rd probably around 4 or 5 PM.
Please feel free to give me a call at any time on my cell phone and let anyone else know as well that it's ok to call me for an update. Cell: (910) 233-4693
Note: I'll be here until Sunday night . . . will be back in North Carolina for Monday - Friday and then will be back here late next Friday for about 10 days through Memorial Day.
